Safe and Sound Protocol
The Safe and Sound Protocol is a listening therapy to unlock your ability to think, feel, and connect better through nervous system regulation. This therapy works for both children and adults and has been filtered through a patented, evidence-based algorithm that highlights specific sound frequencies that help regulate the autonomic nervous system and stimulates the vagus nerve. It can help with reducing symptoms in things such as depression, autism, hyperactivity, learning difficulties, trauma history, sleep and much more.
What Is the Safe and Sound Protocol?
-
Format: A five-hour listening program, delivered over several days or weeks.
-
Content: Music that has been scientifically filtered to emphasize certain frequencies of the human voice.
-
Goal: To help the nervous system feel safe, promoting calm, improved social engagement, and better emotional regulation.
The idea is that by listening to this filtered music, the brain gets "cued" that the environment is safe, which helps shift it out of chronic defense states (like fight, flight, or freeze)
How It Works
-
Polyvagal Theory posits that the autonomic nervous system has three main states:
-
Ventral Vagal (Safe & Social)
-
Sympathetic (Fight/Flight)
-
Dorsal Vagal (Shutdown/Freeze)
-
The SSP aims to stimulate the ventral vagal complex, encouraging the body to shift into a regulated, socially engaged state.
Benefits of the Safe and Sound Protocol
1. Improved Emotional Regulation
-
Helps people better manage anxiety, anger, fear, and emotional reactivity.
2. Enhanced Social Engagement
-
Improves eye contact, facial expressiveness, vocal tone, and the ability to connect with others.
3. Reduced Stress and Anxiety
-
Calms the physiological state, helping reduce the body’s stress response.
4. Support for Trauma Recovery
-
Creates a sense of safety in the body, foundational for trauma work.
5. Improved Focus and Attention
-
By calming the nervous system, it helps improve cognitive clarity and attention.
6. Support for Neurodivergent Individuals
-
Particularly helpful for individuals with autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, or developmental trauma.
7. Improved Sleep
-
A more regulated nervous system can contribute to better sleep patterns.
Who Can Benefit?

-
Anxiety or depression
-
Autism spectrum disorder
